Do you need proof of Bloomington’s deep bench of fine old-time musicians? Come to Lotus in the Park and hear Brad Leftwich and the Hogwire Stringband. Fiddler and vocalist Brad Leftwich is a master of old-time fiddling. Mountain music goes back at least three generations in his family, and he learned directly from such acknowledged masters as Tommy Jarrell, Melvin Wine, and the Hammons family. Hogwire features Brad’s long-time musical partner Linda Higginbotham on banjo and banjo uke and (for this Lotus set) renowned contradance/old-time musician and “stuntologist” Sam Bartlett on guitar, and singer and bassist par excellence Abby Ladin.

Brad and the band close out Saturday’s Lotus in the Park in style: Their set will end with a square dance, called by Lotus’s own Tamara Loewenthal. No experience necessary!
