It’s hard to believe that the Fishtank Ensemble is only a quartet. The band’s instrumentation includes two violins, slap bass, musical saw, flamenco and gypsy jazz guitar, banjolele — and vocals that swing from operatic, to jazz, to gypsy. Lead singer (and saw player) Ursula Knudson sang opera on the streets of Italy; the rest of the band has traveled the world as well, honing their craft across genres. “The whimsical name of the group belies the fact that these musicians play hard, fast, and serious” (Folkworks).
