Chicago’s only “Gypsy surf” band comes to Lotus. The name — pronounced “luh-MAH-juh-mal” — is derived from the Arabic word for “beauty,” and the band delivers a danceable, percussive blend of originals and party music from the Balkans, Greece, the Middle East, and Morocco. “…when they’re on, they’re on, arriving at a fuzzy, garagey take on Roma music thanks to a knack for sexy, serpentine grooves and a mean, mean oud player” (Chicago Reader).
