“We are strength, union, love, sisterhood, music. We are Guaracheras.” This all-women salsa sextet (founded in the city of Cali, Colombia, in 2017) lifts and celebrates the female voice within Afro-Latin music. Andd the salsa? They bring it. With vibraphone, percussion, bass, piano, and vocals, Las Guaracheras do what all great salsa bands do: pull crowds to the floor to dance. They have been part of the salsa scene in Guadalajara, Mexico City, Madrid, Bogotá – and they bring the spice and soul of this music and dance tradition to Bloomington during the Lotus Festival.

This engagement of Las Guaracheras is made possible in part through the Performing Arts Global Exchange program of Mid Atlantic Arts with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
