Yungchen Lhamo

Yungchen Lhamo’s name – given to her at birth by a Tibetan lama – means “Goddess of Melody.” Born and raised in Lhasa, Tibet, she made the arduous 1,200-mile journey across the Himalayan Mountains to Dharamsala, India, 35 years ago. Since then, she has found her way to countries on all continents, using her exquisite voice to sing prayers of meditation and to perform with an astonishing array of artists – including Peter Gabriel, Annie Lennox, Lou Reed, Philip Glass, and Sinead O’Conner, to name only a few. Yungchen now lives in the US and in 2022 released the album “Awakening,” which explores “the relevance of compassion-based spirituality to our modern, interdependent lives.” She says, “I truly believe that voice has a vibrational energy to connect, empower, heal, and transform all human beings. I hope these new songs will help bring inner peace and true happiness to everyone who hears them.”
