In the Arts Pavilion, visiting artist Shelley Hanmo Qian will give a talk about her paper art and the Korean lantern design she made for Lotus

Arts activities for all ages will be available in and around the Arts Pavilion. Masks are required while inside this venue.
- A lantern making activity to continue the Lotus Lantern and Luminaria Project with design created by Shelley Hanmo Qian of JunoniaArts. Create your own origami cicada, design provided by community member Marlen Rust. Huichol Yarn Painting where you can create your own painting inspired by the Huichol tradition.
- The Monroe County History Center will be doing a “Make Your Own Mask” activity in conjunction with their newest exhibit, Monroe: a County of Cultures.
- Paint gourds with the IU La Casa/Latino Cultural Center.
- Come explore the Middle Eastern tradition of khamsa with the IU Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Khamsa have been used for more than 2000 years and are a hand-shaped design that bring protection and good fortune.
- Explore the forces of motion and gravity while you discover the science of art with a pendulum painting. Join WonderLab for joyful, beautiful, messy science.
- The FAR Center for Contemporary Arts brings Tape Art to Lotus in the Park – a collaborative and accessible art form for the whole family that requires only painter’s tape and your imagination.
- Color a paper leaf to add to your “New Things Tree” and see how many new things you have learned about or experienced! Add a leaf to our community tree that describes what you need in your community in order to thrive! Hosted by the Monroe County Public Library.
- Make your own DIY K-Beauty face mask with the IU Arts and Humanities Council.
Plus: Merchandise tent and food trucks from Chocolate Moose, Doner Kabob, Swakin Stirfry, Pili’s Party Taco, and Rasta Pops. EarthKeepers will also be supporting Lotus in the Park by providing food waste collection services for the day.
Switchyard Park Venue Info:
- Bring a blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy music performances on the mainstage lawn.
- Wheelchair accessible seating will be available on the brick walkway in front of the mainstage.
- Attendees will be able to park in the two lots off of S. Rogers Street. Lotus strongly encourages carpooling, walking, or riding your bike to this event since parking will be limited. The parking lot off of Walnut Street is reserved for festival volunteers, artist load-in/load-out, and ADA accessible parking only.
- Masks are required inside of the Arts Pavilion.
